For the last 10 years the village has held various events to raise money for Children in Need. The biggest event is without doubt the annual variety show held in the village hall. The show is organised by Phyllis Cowling assisted by her daughter Yvette Redman and anyone else that can be dragged into taking part or helping out.

This year's show will be taking place on the 26th and 27th of November The first half of the show is performed solely by the children in and around Hurst Green between the ages of 4 and 16. We now have more children and young people wanting to take part than ever before and we have now reached our limit. There are only so many people that will fit onto a stage at one time, even if they are children. For the first time we now have a waiting list to take part in the show. It does mean that for those lucky enough to be taking part in this years show it is essential that rehearsals are attended, as anyone selected for the show who doesn't attend is blocking someone else who want to take part. The performers of the second half are slightly older, with some well into their 70's. Many originate from the Comedy Capers Pantomime Society who usually also perform a sketch in the second half. The childrens' rehearsals start during the summer holiday period, but don't really get underway until the Sunday morning sessions start in September once the holidays are over. There is also a very active sewing circle which meets regularly to make and alter costumes. With over thirty children to make costumes for this is no easy task!
